How much hair will I have to give up?
For a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA), typically about 0.5 to 1 gram of hair is required. This usually translates to a small sample, roughly equivalent to a few strands of hair from the nape of the neck or other less visible areas.
How Do I Prepare for an HTMA Test?
Avoid hair treatments like perming, coloring, or bleaching for at least 8-10 washes before taking the sample.
- Wash your hair 4-6 hours prior to taking the hair sample.
- Use a clarifying shampoo if possible, but it is not imperative.
- While still in the shower, rinse hair with distilled water.
- Hair should be air-dried, if possible.
- Hair should be clear of any additional hair products, serums, gels, etc.
The most ideal circumstance: Wash hair in the morning, rinse with distilled water, air dry, and take the sample around lunch before doing anything strenuous.
Can HTMA Results Be Used for Treatment?
Yes, the results can guide self healing suggestions for addressing nutrient imbalances and detoxifying heavy metals. Your practitioner may recommend dietary changes, supplements, and lifestyle adjustments based on the HTMA findings.
